Have you ever rubbed a sore muscle and felt a lump or knot in Southeast FL? The lump you may have felt is called a trigger point. What is a trigger point? Trigger points are tense bands of muscle that become sore, tender, and painful. A trigger point can develop in any skeletal muscle and could refer pain to other areas of the body.

Trigger points may be caused by:

  • Poor posture
  • Dehydration
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Overuse
  • Injury

Treatments for Muscle Knots in Southeast FL

There are multiple ways to treat muscle knots. We recommend going to a professional who understands the body so as not to further injure yourself. There are many options when it comes to the professional care of trigger points. Some of these include:

  • Chiropractic Care: the most common method for chiropractors is to apply pressure to the trigger point using their finger or thumb. Correcting spinal misalignment, allows the joints to move freely, which in turn will decrease muscle tension.
  • Hot and Cold Care: can help to relieve pain and inflammation
  • Massage Therapy: Massage therapy increases circulation and improves blood flow allowing the taut muscles to relax.

It is extremely rare for someone to have trigger points in a muscle without an underlying joint problem relating to the spine. During your treatment, Dr. Carswell will check to make sure the lump or knot is indeed a trigger point.
